About the event

Event Topic Description:

With the emergence of the concept of neurodiversity, there is strength in the notion that conditions like autism, dyslexia and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) etc. should be regarded as naturally occurring cognitive variations with distinctive strengths and should not be regarded as checklists of deficits and dysfunctions.

The session will address the practical implementation of the decision making process involved in educating children diagnosed with special needs from the perspective of the individual child, the school, parents and professionals. It will highlight the the natural flexibility and support that Montessori environments provide for neurodivergent students, highlighting Dr. Montessori’s philosophy on the educability of the human potential.

In the light of fairness and the idea of equity in education, the session will also discuss the caveats and general approaches gleaned from practice, with regards to educating students with disabilities in inclusive settings.
